In what will be their sixth consecutive year, the Forward Racing Team presented their new livery and team for 2016 in ‘The Room’, Milan, Italy. Riding for them this year they have two former Italian VR46 Academy riders Lorenzo Baldassari and Luca Marini.
Riding for them this year are two former Italian VR46 Academy riders Lorenzo Baldassari and Luca Marini.
Team boss Giovanni Cuzari said: “I am proud and happy to present for the sixth consecutive year the Forwar Racing Moto2Team. The project this year is young and full of values that I very much believe in. I like to think that our team can transmit the audience of this beautiful sport and not the healthy principles of this competition. This year Forward Racing is competing with two young talents of the VR46 Riders Academy, Lorenzo Baldassarri and Luca Marini. New goals are awaiting us together with our boys and to all the staff.”
Lorenzo Baldassari will continue for his second year with the Forward Racing Team. After switching from Gresini Racing Team in 2014, Baldassarri finished ninth overall in the 2015 Moto2 Championship. He has had a strong start to the season finishing third fasted on day 3 of testing in Jerez.

Baldassarri said: “I am excited to continue my career with Forward Racing. I am convinced that together we will grow again and we can reach great achievements this year. The first test in Jerez went well and I am pleased with the feeling I have got with the new Kalex 2016. Although I was amongst the fastest we still have to improve in order to be competitive from the beginning. I hope that this season will continue just as I finished the last one; growing and constantly improving my results.”
Replacing Italian rider Simone Corsi (who has moved to the Speed UpRacing Team) on board the Kalex is Luca Marini. Marini has made the switch from Paginas Amarillas HP40 Junior Team where he finished fifth in the FIM CEV Repsol Moto2 European Championship. He made a wildcard appearance in Misano in the Moto2 class during the 2015 season but unfortunately crashed out.
He said: “I am very pleased to begin this new adventure with Forward Racing. I’d like to thank Giovanni Cuzari and the VR46 Riders Academy for the great opportunity they’re offering me. The first feelings after the Jerez Test are absolutely positive; with my Kalex 2016 I feel good. Now it comes to acquiring more and more confidence especially during the first few races and learn the circuits on which I have not raced yet. I’m at ease with the team and I think that thanks to them and the support of the VR46 Riders Academy I will be able to grow very fast. I’m all in for that.”
Marini finished 19th overall in Jerez as he was unable to ride after bruising his left hand after an accident during testing. He has grown up in the world of bikes due to the fact he is the younger half-brother of nine times Moto GP Champion Valentino Rossi.
