Brad Binder found himself at the top of the timesheets in Jerez on the last day of official testing for the Moto3 class.
The test drew to a close after nine hour long sessions at the circuit over the three days, Brad Binder was fastest on day three with a time of 1:46.618. The South African-born rider has gradually crept up the timesheets over the three days with his fastest time in the last session.
Sky Racing Team VR46 rider Romano Fenati was the fastest in Moto3 overall by the end of the test. Although he was able to reach below the 1:47 target, on day three he was unable to beat his time from day two who which left him at the top of the timesheets, overall.
His Italian teammate, new to Moto3 this year, Nicolo Bulega has looked very impressive throughout the whole test. Leading after day one and fourth fastest after day two, Bulega was second fastest on day three with consistent lap times. His time of 1:46.591 from day one left him fourth overall. The remaining Sky Team VR46 rider Andrea Migno finished ninth.
Leopard Racing Team rider Joan Mir crept up the time-sheets on day three finishing third. His fastest time of 1:46.725 during sessions eight (where he was second fastest) meant he finished in sixth overall. Fabio Quartararo and Andrea Locatelli were almost within a second of their teammate Mir’s time, they finished eleventh and twenty-second overall.
Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider Jorge Navarro has been impressive throughout the test. The Spanish rider was fifth fastest on after day three, but his time of 1:46.505 on day two meant that he finished second overall after Fenati. Ongetta-Rivacold rider Nicolo Antonelli finished a close third overall with his time of 1:46.550 which had previously left him third fastest on day three.
By the end of day three, twelve riders finished within one second of Binder; the top 28 riders all finished within two seconds.
The Moto3 class is always an exciting race, notoriously known for riders changing positions on track so frequently that the timing struggles to keep up. With results like this in testing, after some big names were promoted to the Moto2 round, it is looking to be another action packed season for the remaining Moto3 riders.
Moto3’s last official testing is set to take place at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar, where MotoGP have just finished their final official test, between 11th – 13th March.
