AGR Team rider Axel Pons made a great start to day two of testing in Jerez, Spain, setting a time that proved hard to beat all day.
The Spanish rider completed a flying lap of 1:41.730 on lap eight of 16 in the first session, the only rider to lap under the 1:42 barrier so far during testing.
Not only did Pons set the fastest lap of the day, he also broke the Moto2 lap record previously set by Stefan Bradl in 2011. Even Pons himself could not get close to his time during the rest of the day with his next fastest lap coming in the second session, but over a second slower than his new record.
Paginas Amarillas HP 40 rider Alex Rins was the next fastest rider in the Moto2 class with a time of 1:42.224. He managed to take just under half a second off his fastest time set on day one of testing. Dominique Aegerter gradually improved his time aboard his CarXpert Interwetten bike finishing third with a time of 1:42.323.
Thomas Luthi, who led the pack on day one, was not far off his time lapping at 1:42.589. He was just over 0.3 seconds slower than previous which left him in 8th place.
British rider Sam Lowes unfortunately fell during the second day of testing. He walked away uninjured and was able to continue in all sessions. His fastest time of the day was in the first session with a time of 1:42.547, just under 0.15 slower than his fastest time on day one.
New Dynavolt Intact GP rider Jonas Folger looked impressive on day two. The German rider who switched this season from the AGR Team was one of the top riders all day ahead of teammate Sandro Cortese who finished 13th fastest. Folger was top of the pack after the second session on track and dropped to second by the end of the day. Competitive times from other riders meant Folger’s fastest time of 1:42.388 left him fifth overall after the three sessions.
Italtrans Racing Team Mattia Pasini also fell on day two of testing at Jerez and also was able to walk away uninjured, however he did not go back out on track during the third session.
Alex Marquez also refrained from testing during the last session of the day in order to rest his wrist after he recently underwent surgery. He plans to return for the last day of testing in Jerez.
