Bernie Ecclestone is confident the US Grand Prix will go ahead as scheduled despite the US Government minimising the amount of funding they will provide The Circuit of The Americas.
The US Grand Prix at COTA (Circuit of The Americas) has been part of the Formula One calendar since 2012 but since its introduction, the US Government has reportedly supplied the track a $25 million subsidy.
With the state of Texas now minimising this subsidy by 20% it had been feared the race organisers would no longer be able to fund the 2016 US Grand Prix with the COTA chairman Bobby Epstein claiming they were “screwed”. The 2015 US Grand Prix also had disappointing attendance figures after the weekend was affected by the tropical storm Patricia which has added extra pressure on the tracks finances ahead of this year’s Grand Prix.
Despite the tough situation, Bernie Ecclestone was adamant when speaking to Forbes that the US Grand Prix would go ahead.
“I think Austin will happen this year.”
“Epstein is confident. He knows the money is coming.”
