Manor Racing’s Rio Haryanto has admitted he needs to learn quickly from a tough first test after his Thursday was cut short when the Indonesian driver lost control at turn five in Barcelona resulting in him running backwards into the barriers.
Despite a trying few days for the Formula One rookie, Haryanto believes he has done well and made a lot of progress in just a short space of time with the team as he was only confirmed as their driver one week before the test began.
With only two days of testing left between now and the season opener in Australia Haryanto knows he has to work extremely hard and learn quickly if he is to be a success in Formula One.
“I am here pushing to get the maximum out of myself and the car. You saw today I made a mistake. I have to learn from that, and not repeat it again the next time,” Haryanto told Autosport
“But I’m getting more confident with the team, and my relationship with the engineers is improving day by day.
“I’m learning, and there are two more days for me, so I’ll try to do my best, to learn as much as I can before the first grand Prix.
“Hopefully, by the end of the tests next week I’ll feel a lot more comfortable.
“Yesterday I was still learning a lot with the team, but today I felt there was a step.
“Day by day I will get used to it, which is why I believe there is a lot more to come from me because I am still very new to the car.”
The second pre-season gets underway in Barcelona on Tuesday which will be Haryanto’s last chance to immerse himself into the team and understand the car before the team arrives in Melbourne for the first race of the year just two weeks later.
