Moto 2 rider Alex Marquez underwent surgery today after falling from his Marc VDS Honda during a private test in Jerez on Saturday.
His crash at Sito Pons corner resulted in a fracture to his left Triquetrum; an area of poor circulation needing long term immobilisation.
Doctors of Hospital Universitario Quirón Dexeus in Barcelona operated to insert a compression screw to hold the bone exactly in place following a 3D CT scan. The fracture was slightly offset but because the bone is now secure a cast was not required on his wrist.
Marquez was discharged on today and rehabilitation will begin 48 hours after the operation, but the bone will take 5 weeks to heal according to Doctor Xavier Mir. The main concern for Marquez will be during braking especially from high speeds, as not only is his wrist his main support, it will be under an immense amount of pressure.

Official testing for the Moto 2 and 3 classes is scheduled for the 2nd of March in Jerez, Spain, and Marquez is “motivated to return as soon as possible!” The Jerez test will be a chance to see how he can perform following on from the operation if he is able to complete some laps. Luckily for Marquez there is another opportunity for testing in Qatar on 11th March before the 2016 season opener 9 days later.
