Berlin ePrix relocates to city centre location

The German round of the Formula E Championship has found a new home, right in the heart of Berlin.

Based around the Strausberger Platz, close to the central shopping area of Alexanderplatz, the 11 turn bespoke circuit will replace the former home at the Templehof Airfield. The now closed airport is currently being used to house refugees from Syria and the Middle East, which forced the Berlin ePrix to be relocated. Other locations under consideration were Munich and the Norisring in Nuremberg.

At 2km in length, it has yet to receive approval from either the Berlin authorities or the FIA, but both sides are confident the race will go ahead this May. The race is set to take place under the iconic TV tower in Alexandraplatz, one of the features of the Berlin skyline.

Series CEO, Alejandro Agag, said: “It is fantastic news that we have been able to find a new location to race in Berlin and I want to thank everybody who has been involved in making this happen for all their hard work in such a short space of time.

“Germany is an incredibly important market for Formula E as the home of DHL, the championship’s Official Logistics Partner, and BMW i, the Official Vehicle Partner of the series. I am sure that this race will capture the imagination of the German fans and be a great success.”

Tickets are already on sale for the race on Saturday 21st May at a discounted price of €20 until April 29th. Children under 6 and the over 60’s are free.
