Formula E is looking to host a race in New York next season with the city favourite to host the championship finale in 2017.
The series is looking to increase the number of locations from the current 10 to 12 for season three, with a number of cities already in the mix planning to host an event. Hong Kong, Montreal, Switzerland, Sydney and two cities in the Middle East have already been suggested as possible locations.
However, we could see some casualties from the current calendar including Beijing and Punta del Este which looks the most likely to be dropped. We are also still yet to hear the fate of the German round for this season, and the London event which has had fierce criticism from the local community.
Talking to Autosport, series CEO, Alejandro Agag said: “My dream is to race in New York, I’m actively working on a plan to race there. I can place the race at the end of season three, maybe.”
Formula E has been criticised by some for having large gaps between races, with the season running from September to July. Agag confirmed to Autosport that the plan was to have a later start to the season, possibly in November, which would cause a problem for Beijing which it set as the season opener in September.
Montreal has been raised as a replacement, but that too would have to be a September or October date, with Hong Kong already confirmed for early October.
Agag has already promised a calendar by March, to counter the delays faced this season.
