Kevin Magnussen will officially be unveiled as Pastor Maldonado’s replacement on Wednesday according to reports on Autosport.com.
For over a week now it had been suggested Kevin Magnussen was in talks with Renault to replace Pastor Maldonado. This comes after the Venezuelan’s sponsor PDVSA failed to reach an agreement with Renault over what they should pay for Maldonado’s drive in 2016.
Negotiations between Magnussen’s representatives and Renault were ongoing last week but we now understand the former McLaren driver has put pen to paper and he will drive for Renault on their return to Formula One.
Things looked bleak for Magnussen after he lost his McLaren reserve driver role a few months ago after just two years with the team, one as a full driver where he finished 11th in the constructors’ championship and then last year where he endured fleeting chances to drive and when he did the car would fail. However, now his fortunes have turned and he could find himself part of a team that might win things.
Renault are expected to make the announcement themselves officially during their car launch in Paris on Wednesday. We expect both Magnussen and his teammate for 2016, Jolyon Palmer, to be at the event.
