The future of Circuit of the Americas, in F1, will be decided by the end of February.
The circuit chairman, Bobby Epstein, is expected to announce if the Austin-based track will remain on the F1 calendar.
Epstein has noted the future of the race after the Texas state government declared large cuts in its collaboration with the circuit.
These cuts are mostly tied in with the track’s hosting fee.
The future of the race was described as “not looking good” by Epstein.
Bernie Ecclestone has settled down rumours, after saying that the American Grand Prix will go ahead this year.
Speaking to Autosport Ecclestone said,
“I share his optimism on it. We all want it to happen, and usually, when that’s the case, things get done.” “I certainly can’t confirm anything at this point, but for sure there will be something within the next 30 days. We’ll have an answer definitely before the end of February.”
The circuit was promised $25million of funding a year, but that sum has been demoted to around $19.5million due to economic impacts on the area.
Last year, ticket sales dropped due to stormy weather. This caused the attendance of the Grand Prix to be very low.
Indianapolis was the last track to host the USA Grand Prix, before COTA.
