GP2 and GP3 to skip Sochi rounds

According to Motorsport.com, the 2016 GP2 and GP3 championships will no longer visit the Sochi Autodrom in Russia.

The 2014 Winter Olympic Park was converted into a Grand Prix circuit, supporting GP2 and GP3 races in both 2014 and 2015.

Several sources are claiming that the Sochi Autodrom will not be on the calendar, but will still present for the Formula One Russian Grand Prix

An unofficial calendar is stating that GP2 will visit the streets of Azerbaijan instead of Sochi this year, but GP3 is not expected to follow them to Baku.

The European Grand Prix will return to F1 for the first time since 2012, as the streets of Valencia last hosted the race.

Organisers of the Russian Grand Prix didn’t confirm or deny the status of the support races, to Motorsport.com.

The organisers did, however, confirm that the support bill for the Russian Grand Prix will be confirmed and finalised soon.

On the other hand, it’s expected that Sepang will return to GP2 and GP3, for the first time since 2013. This year, the Malaysian Grand Prix is expected to be the penultimate round of the season.

These events leave the unofficial calendar at 11 races.
