Norisring has confirmed it won’t be hosting the German round of the Formula E Championship this season.
The temporary track in the Bavarian city of Nuremburg had looked a favourite to take over the race from Berlin, although ultimately an agreement couldn’t be made. Famous for hosting the DTM championship, it is characterised by long straights, and it’s hairpin first corner.
In an article by E-Formel News, a statement from the organisers said: “With the deadline extension now was a decision of the Formula E-responsible for Franconian street circuit.
“After it was impossible to confirm the venue today, it is 2016 not give any formula E in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region.
“After weeks of negotiations with the Schwabacher Agency IKmedia is the end of the time limit today the decision has been made not to come to Nuremberg. Because currently is the formula E unable to confirm the Norisring as a location.”
The series one circuit at the former Templehof Airport has been ruled out due to being a temporary home for refugees from Syria, which is expected to be expanded. The track was located on the apron in front of the old terminal building, and the equipment which was used can be to put to use at another event within the area.
Other options which are being investigated including an alternative circuit in the Berlin area along with Munich.
