No power increase for season three of Formula E

Technical Regulations released earlier this week wrongly claimed power would increase from 200kW to 250kW for season three of the Formula E Championship.

Wednesday’s incorrect claim has since been amended and the power output for season three will remain the same as season two (200kW). The series will now aim to phase in the power increase over the next few seasons. Season three will remain at 200kW, season four the power will increase to 220kW and season five will see the power increased to 250kW.

This alteration to Formula E’s development plan does mean they are unlike to meet their initial target of 300kW by season five.

Changes that still stand from Wednesday’s release include an 8kg reduction in overall weight, an increase of the battery cell weight limit (200kg to 230kg) and drivers will now be able to regenerate energy at 150kW under braking (upped from the current 100kg limit).
