Rosberg cannot give up – Häkkinen

Mika Häkkinen has encouraged Nico Rosberg to keep fighting for his first Drivers’ title after losing out to team-mate Lewis Hamilton for the past two seasons.

Speaking to Sport Bild the 1998 and 1999 world champion explained: “Only one driver can win the championship and so far that has been Lewis, but that does not mean that the battle is over,”

As reigning champions, Mercedes’ “Silver Arrows” are expected to be at the forefront of the field again next season, giving the German a third shot at the championship.

“The most important thing for somebody in Nico’s position is to not give up and not resign himself to being second. You have to continue to fight, even if only one can win.”

Mika also suggested that winning the title three races early could’ve hindered Lewis Hamilton’s 2016 preparations as he hasn’t beaten Rosberg in qualifying or the races since.

“Lewis was able to sit back last season. But if someone wins another after, it does not prepare mentally well for next season.”

The Flying Finn also shared his thoughts on the sport being difficult to follow:

“People like simple things. Our lives are complicated enough. Formula 1 also needs to make better use of social media to connect the fans to Formula 1. The fans do not want to just see what happens, they want to be there.”
