Alonso happy to finish the race in Brazil

The McLaren’s found themselves racing quietly amongst themselves towards the back-end of the grid.

After suffering problems in both Friday practice two and qualifying many, including himself, were probably expecting Fernando wouldn’t be able to make the full distance.

The Spaniard ended up finishing the race behind his teammate in 15th but said that he’s just happy he was able to finish, despite having problems earlier on in the race.

“Finishing the race today was our first priority after suffering retirements on recent Sunday afternoons,” Alonso said. “We collected some good data, especially for next year and especially for the chassis.”

Alonso had to fit a brand new engine after qualifying and thinks that the lack of laps to set it up affected him early on.

“Unfortunately, the car was not working 100% at the beginning of the race, it sometimes felt strange to drive, with different power in different gears, so I was having to avoid the odd gear from time to time,” He said.

Both Alonso and Button have agreed to stay at McLaren for at least one more season, and Fernando is excited to be getting on with 2016.

“We have one more 2015 grand prix to go now, I can’t wait to start working 100 percent on 2016.” The 34-year-old said.
