Nasr given three place grid penalty

Felipe Nasr has been given a three-place grid penalty at his home race for obstructing his compatriot Felipe Massa in the first part of qualifying. It means the Brazilian will start tomorrow’s race from 14th, behind his teammate Marcus Ericsson.

Nasr was building up to his final quick lap but failed to move over for Massa’s Williams, who was already on a flying lap. The veteran Brazilian had to take avoiding action at turn 11 to ensure he didn’t run into the back of the Sauber driver.

Speaking after qualifying, Nasr told the press “The car felt quite good today.”

“I was on a good lap on my last try, which nearly put me in Q3. I am satisfied for myself and also for the team. The penalty is a shame, but I will do my best to finish the race in the points.”

The stewards have also given Nasr two penalty points on his licence, his first of the year.
