Mercedes kept their advantage over the rest of the field again with both silver arrows at the top of the timesheets.
Lewis Hamilton had an eventful session with his car momentarily stopping on the circuit before fixing the problem from the cockpit and then spinning out later on. The world champion looked to be struggling but then set a 1:12.070 to top the session.
Fernando Alonso’s McLaren was running again after his breakdown in FP2 and was able to challenge the times of the Toro Rosso and Red Bull. His previous team were third and fourth in Vettel’s favour.
Bottas led the Williams charge behind the Ferrari’s. The Finn finished 5th with Massa just 12th – four-tenths of a second away from his team-mate.
Both Force India and Lotus duos finished in the top 10 with impressive pace.
Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen finished 10th ahead of team-mate Carlos Sainz in 15th.
Will Stevens out-paced American team-mate Rossi by 0.4s in his pursuit to finish ahead for the first time.
