Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag has stated Formula E would be willing to help the struggling Trulli GP entry find a new buyer, if both parties agree it would be beneficial.
The Italian entry, headed by former Grand Prix winner Jarno Trulli, has faced a torrid start to the 2015/16 season having not made the grid in the opening two rounds. The team missed scrutineering in Beijing and were unable to pass it in Malaysia interluded by losing one of the team’s drivers, Salvador Duran, over a contract dispute.
However, the boss of Formula E, Alejandro Agag, has stated that Formula E needs to come to an agreement with the team to determine the future of the struggling outfit.
One major possibility would be new ownership and a re-branding of the team for a more financially secure future.
Speaking to Motorsport.com, Agag said, “I mean, we are working with Trulli. We will obviously have a common position, we will agree with them on something to do for the future.”
Agag then continued to discuss the possibility of another team taking over Trulli’s entry.
“And obviously one option is that they are replaced by someone else. That’s clearly one possibility.
“There is a lot of appetite for teams, so to find a replacement is not difficult. But we have to find the best possible replacement IF that’s the way we going to go.”
One such replacement could be David Brabham’s Project Brabham, which aims to bring the legendary Brabham name back to the pinnacle of motorsport. The Australian has already declared his interest in Formula E.
Others potential candidates could be British car manufacturer Jaguar, who had a Formula 1 team from 2000-2004 before being bought by Red Bull from Ford. The brand is currently throwing resources at its EV R&D programme and with a partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering, who supply the batteries to Formula E, a tie-up could be on the cars.
Whatever the outcome, many fans of the series hope that Formula E will have a full, 20 car grid when the championship arrives in South America on the 19th of December for the Punta del Este ePrix in Uruguay.
