Red Bull set to use new Renault engine in Brazil

Red Bull will use a new Renault engine at Interlagos next week, for the Brazilian Grand Prix according to Motorsport.com.

Improvements for the rather slow engine were made available after the United States Grand Prix in Austin; eleven of twelve development tokens available to the French car manufacturer have been used.

Meetings with Red Bull, who made their Formula One début in 2005, came to the conclusion that the engine was not to be introduced at the Circuit of The Americas.

If the new engines were to be used in Austin, which were expected to make the cars two-tenths per lap quicker, the Austrian-based team would have received a ten-place grid penalty for both cars – for a track which Red Bull thought their cars would be fast at anyway.

The new engine was also rejected for the Mexican Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez due to the extreme demands that the high altitude had on the power units.

Red Bull made an agreement with Renault last month that will see them use the developed engine in Brazil next weekend.

It is not yet confirmed if both Red Bull drivers, Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo, will use the new engine at Interlagos, or if just one of them will use it.

Red Bull’s sister team Toro Rosso have decided that they will not use the developed Renault engine at all this season
