Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel admits he made several mistakes throughout the Mexican Grand Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Vettel had a tough time on Sunday as his afternoon began with a puncture caused by contact with former Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo on the opening lap of the race.
The German then spun at turn seven which flat spotted his tyres. His race then came to a close when he spun again at turn seven, this time ending up in the barrier.
“I had a bad start – these things happen it is racing,” Vettel told Sky Sports F1 after the race in a TV interview.
“The race was pretty much lost. I tried to come back, but two mistakes did not help.
“The last mistake was my mistake, so I’m not proud of it.”
Vettel also commented on his collision with Ricciardo.
“Turn one, start of the race. He was closing the door, but he was not next to me. But it was too late and I had a bad feeling into Turn Two and Three.
“This kind of stuff you can’t do on purpose, so I’m not blaming him. Obviously it is a pain when it hits you in Turn One.”
Today was the first time Vettel has crashed out of a Grand Prix since the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix.
