Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel says he is aiming to beat countryman Nico Rosberg to second place spot in the Drivers’ Championship.
The four-time world champion was asked in an interview with Formula One’s official website, what it would be like if he were to maintain second position in the standings.
“We definitely want to extract the maximum possible, and since the first position has already been taken we will push hard for second. But this will be no easy task, as we are not really the P2 favourites!”
Vettel seems to have struggled at times throughout practice, along with every other driver. The track has seemed to be very greasy, a combination of it being brand new and mixed weather conditions.
“It is always better to be one position ahead of what everyone else, including yourself, expects you to be. This will, for sure, give us even more enthusiasm for next year and will make us push even harder.
“We have seen in the last few races that we are getting closer and that there are chances here and there. From both Nico’s and my point of view the target is pretty much the same, as we are trying to get the maximum out of the remaining races.”
The Autodromo Hermano Rodriguez is a new track, so we are unaware as to which team the track will suit. Ferrari will be eager to close down points on Mercedes, despite being unable to win the championship.
The simulators have suggested that we will see lap times of around 1:19 throughout the weekend, so far we have seen lap times of around 1:21.
