Verstappen not worried about Mercedes speculation

According to Sky Sports, Dutch Formula One youngster Max Verstappen says he wouldn’t feel pressured to pair up with back-to-back World Champion Lewis Hamilton at the same team, at some point in the future.

Verstappen has reached the prestigious Formula One Championship after just one years worth of experience in single-seater racing. His amazing performances have grabbed the eyes of many teams.

Verstappen in his début season in Formula One, racing for Italian team Toro Rosso – sister team to Red Bull.

The Dutchman finished fourth in Austin after a strong performance, that equalled the eighteen year old’s best result. He seems that he can grab a podium in not so distant future, seeming to be battling often with the likes of Bottas and Raikkonen.

It’s believed that Mercedes and Ferrari, first and second in the Constructor’s Championship respectively, are favourites to sign the youngster in the future.

If Nico Rosberg is to leave Mercedes, it’s believed that a Lewis Hamilton-Verstappen partnership will be the only feasible option. Hamilton extended his contract with his Mercedes team for another three years.

Verstappen has said that he would be confident to take on anyone who is in the same car as him. He told Sky Sports News HQ

‘It doesn’t matter, as long as at one point I’m in a championship-winning car. I don’t care about my team-mate.’

When asked about possibly teaming up with Hamilton, the Dutchman said ‘He’s very talented, you can see that, otherwise you don’t win the championship three times. You have some different people in F1, Lewis has his own style, and I think it’s good for F1. So definitely looking forward to that’

Rosberg’s contract with Mercedes lasts until at least the end of 2016 whilst Verstappen’s runs out in 2017, so a move will likely happen further in the future.

But the uncertainty of Red Bull’s future in the sport could see Verstappen on the transfer market a lot sooner, if Red Bull and Toro Rosso quit the prestigious sport.
