Trulli pull out of Formula E season opener in Beijing

The Trulli Formula E team have pulled out of the season opener in Beijing due to their powertrain being delivered late.

Trulli failed to complete a timed lap during pre-season with the Motomatica JT-01 powertrain.

Trulli’s powertrain components were held up in customs hence why their four cars did not undergo scrutineering by Friday’s 3pm deadline, breaching Article 24.4 of the sporting regulations.

Trulli were given a 8pm deadline in which they had time to present the powertrain. They failed to meet this thus will not be taking part in tomorrow’s event in Beijing.

Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag told Autosport these problems could carry over to the next race in Malaysia.

“Racing is about taking risks sometimes,” he said. “These guys have decided to take a risk. Sometimes it pays and sometimes it doesn’t.

“They need to get it right here and if they don’t get it right here it will be very difficult for them for Malaysia and then they have to wait for Punta [del Este, round three, in December].”

This does now mean 18 cars will take to the grid in Saturday’s race.
