Star Driver: Russian Grand Prix

My star driver of the Russian Grand Prix is Sergio Perez. This weekend the choice was easy as throughout the entire race, Checo performed some incredibly mature and skilled moves earning him third place and an appearance on the podium.

This podium is the third ever podium for his team, Sahara Force India (two of the three podiums were earned by the Mexican driver). This podium did not only give the mid-field team some much-needed points, but it also supplied the fans with some incredible defensive driving and helped dull the blow from his teammate, Nico Hulkenberg’s early, first-lap retirement.

Perez’s last podium was won at the Bahrain GP from the 2014 season. This weekend’s race, which ended the drought of champagne is much deserved as he battled his way forward through the places. Perez didn’t qualify as well as other Mercedes powered cars, starting from the grid in ninth place. Despite this and the fact that the Force India is not the strongest of cars on the grid, Perez persevered and pushed his way through the pack, earning a total of 15 points for his team.

Sergio is successfully exciting his Mexican fans as the returning event of his home Grand Prix draws closer, and rightfully so. Perez has proved that the Mexican fans have drivers from their country that they should be proud of. He raced with maturity, skill and precision, despite losing and regaining his podium in the final lap. Perez should be proud.
