Romain Grosjean crashed out of the Russian GP, losing control of his Lotus in the fast left-hander of turn 3 at Sochi Autodrom.
The Frenchman walked away from the aftermath with only a bandage on his shoulder to show for it as he left the medical centre.
“I’m fine,” he said. “I won’t be able to run a marathon right now, but I’m very glad for Bell helmets and a HANS [Head And Neck Support] device and TecPro barriers.”
Grosjean had pitted at the first safety car and had fought his way back up to 13th before his accident.
“It’s not the best feeling in the world but I’m very happy that the technology in Formula 1 is so good at the minute that you can have a big shunt and be able to speak about it.”
As Romain explained, the cause of the crash is still being investigated: “We just lost the rear into a very high-speed corner. We need to see if it was my fault or something didn’t work as expected.”
