Sauber’s Felipe Nasr gained eight points for a well earned sixth place at the Russian Grand Prix, marking his best finish since his debut in Australia (where he finished fifth).
Speaking after the event, the 23-year old Nasr felt that he was able to compete with cars ahead of him and, in the words of his team principal, Monisha Kaltenborn, he “was able to show the potential of the car.”
“I am very satisfied with the result today. It was an intense race from the beginning to the end. The pace of the car was quite competitive, especially on the supersoft tyres, and we were temporarily able to keep ahead of some strong competitors”
In spite of taking many of the plaudits himself, the Brazilian was quick to praise his team and recognise the effort they put in to ensure his impressive result.
“The balance of the car with the soft tyres was not as good as with the super softs. Nevertheless, well done to the team, those points are for all of them. They all did a great job. These are the opportunities we cannot miss, and I am glad we extracted the maximum today.”
The result means that Nasr opens up a three-point lead over fellow South American Pastor Maldonado, who finished seventh, and maintains 13th place in the Driver’s Standings.
