With the soft and super-soft compound confirmed for the Russian Grand Prix, Mercedes says they’re better prepared to face troubles concerning the tyres after the disaster of Singapore.
It is well known that these two tyre compounds don’t connect well with the Silver Arrows’ car, as it was demonstrated in a poor Singapore race after Lewis Hamilton retired due to engine problems, and Rosberg only managed to get 4th, well behind the top 3.
The nature of the Sochi Autodrom can be another issue for the Brackley based team. The one-year-old circuit proved to be tricky last season due to the new asphalt, which helped Rosberg could do an entire race but the first lap on the medium compound.
As reported by Motorsport, Paddy Lowe believes the team will be better prepared to deal with any kind of trouble.
“This year we have moved one step softer on the compounds to bring the soft and supersoft into play – perhaps influenced by Nico running almost the entire race last year on a single set of tyres.”
“One year on, the track surface will have weathered differently so we must ensure we have all eventualities covered.”
