2011 was another year for Alonso at Ferrari. Alonso started the season with fourth place in Albert Park, he was then out-raced by team-mate Felipe Massa in Malaysia and China – finishing sixth and seventh respectively. He took his first podium of the season with third in Turkey. In Catalunya, Alonso qualified third and took the race lead into the first turn. However, he was overtaken by the Red Bulls in the first set of pit stops he eventually finished fifth.
In Monaco, he finished second courtesy of a red flag incident. The Spaniard then retired in Canada and bounced back to finish second in Valencia. He did get his first win of the season in Britain after overtaking the Red Bulls in the pit-stops.
Alonso finished second in Germany after a long battle with eventual winner Lewis Hamilton. He took his fourth successive podium by finishing third in Budapest, before finishing fourth in Spa. Alonso took the lead at Monza in the first corner but was later passed by Vettel and Button.
He eventually achieved another podium. Alonso finished second to Button in Suzuka and added a third place in India and second at Yas Marina. Alonso closed the season with fourth in Brazil to finish fourth in the Drivers’ Championship.
Alonso won his first race of 2012 – still with Ferrari – after beating Sergio Perez to the throne of the podium in Sepang.
The Spaniard went on to come third in Monaco and fifth in Canada.
Alonso then won the European Grand Prix, came second in Britain but won again in Germany.
He would then go on to retire in Belgium and Japan before losing the championship in Brazil to German youngster Sebastian Vettel.

2013 was another Red season for Alonso with Ferrari. Alonso came second in Australia and had his race ruined in Sepang after hitting the back of Sebastian Vettel on lap one. The Spaniard eventually finished runner-up to Vettel in the championship.
In 2014, Alonso nearly won in Hungary but finished the season in a disappointing sixth position.
And that leaves us with this torrid season for Alonso. The Spaniard moved to McLaren and his car has been poor. He’s struggled for points all season – it’s not going to improve. It’s a tough season for McLaren and it’s wondered if he’ll remain with them next season.
