Renault e.dams driver, Sebastien Buemi has expressed his concerns about the new qualifying format, saying that the new format might lead to drivers missing out on their best lap due to on-track incidents.
The new format sees qualifying groups shortened to six minutes, with the quickest drivers going into a Super Pole shoot-out. This would leave drivers with time for only an out lap and a warm-up lap at 170kW, and a one quick lap at 200kW.
Speaking to Motorsport.com, Buemi said: “I’m not against it, but the only thing I can see wrong is having just one lap in the group session. For me, it is difficult because, if you get traffic or a yellow flag, you might not even be able to do a flying lap.”
“That means you could get screwed pretty easily if you can’t do your lap without any delay like this.”
Though he has concerns with the new format, Buemi is a fan of the Super Pole idea.
“The idea of a Super Pole is a good one and the organisers should be applauded as the fans will love it, but as I say – having to get there on one lap with five cars together could cause problems.”
