Nico Hulkenberg says he doesn’t understand why the stewards awarded him a penalty so soon after the collision with Williams driver, Felipe Massa.
Hulkenberg received a three-place grid drop for the next outing at Suzuka, Japan, for the incident.
Speak after his race Hulkenberg explained: “I’m quite frustrated for two reasons, obviously. The race looked promising, so to finish it that early with that incident is very disappointing and annoying”.
The German was side-by-side with Felipe as the #19 Williams exited the pit lane, with Hulkenberg appearing to be unaware of the Brazilian’s presence.
“I was on the racing line and ahead going into Turn 3. He’s coming out of the pits and touches me on the back. It’s a bit strange, I don’t understand also why the penalty is given right away and they weren’t even listening to what the different views were.
“I saw him coming out of the pitlane, but after that I was in front,”
