Turkey has completed talks with Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone over a return to the Formula One calendar in 2016 according to Turkish news outlet BGN News.
Chairman of Intercity, which operates Istanbul Park, Vural Ak said he met Bernie Ecclestone on Wednesday, in London and that he wants Formula One to return to Turkey.
Ak said a race would require government approval and they would have to wait for the upcoming elections for the new government to decide.
“The Turkish government should approve the race because it’s an international activity,” he said. “For this reason, we are waiting for the election.”
Turkey is going to hold snap elections on November 1.
The FIA confirm their official calendar for the upcoming season in December thus they will have till then to strike a deal.
“I can say that the only thing we need is the final signature to enter the official calendar,” Ak said at a press conference in Istanbul.
He finally added Istanbul Park would be ready to host a Grand Prix in 2016.
