Lewis Hamilton dominated the Italian Grand Prix weekend with a clean sweep of finishing at the top of each session. The British driver also survived a post-race stewards investigation to take his 40th career victory at Monza and extend his championship lead to 53 points.
The top three drivers on the podium were interviewed by film director and huge Formula One fan George Lucas, who asked Hamilton to comment about his comfortable winning margin to which the World Champion replied:
“I couldn’t have done it without my team. I couldn’t have done it without my team. I don’t know if anyone can hear us.
”This team is just remarkable and what we have achieved together is so special, so I’m incredibly grateful to them for really working so hard through the weekend, through the last weeks, through the whole year to give me the car I had today. These guys also did a great job.”

Following the podium ceremony, race winner was then asked by Sky Sports F1 if he felt concerned that he would lose his victory. Hamilton replied:
“I don’t feel concerned at the moment. There’s no need to worry; I had an amazing day, an amazing weekend, and that’s really what I’m focused on. What will be will be. We did everything we could.”
Hamilton went on to further say:
“Formula 1 is about running to the maximum. Every single driver and every single car here, there are limits on lots of things – weight and all sorts – and they run to the bare minimum. All the time it’s above, but as low as we can go.
”So if it’s 20, we’ll be 20.1…or 20.001. That’s what Formula 1 is all about. And for whatever reason today – if it’s 0.3 it’s 0.3 – but it had no effect on the car. That small amount on the tyre doesn’t do anything. It has to be a much bigger amount – 0.5 or 1 psi – to make a difference.”
