Lewis Hamilton has praised former McLaren teammate, Jenson Button, and says the team’s form is sad to see.
“It doesn’t look like a McLaren. For me, a McLaren is always red and white, or silver car I drove.” he told The Guardian
“Now it is greyish, completely grey, and it feels very weird when you look at the board and see this team fighting with Manor. Manor are relatively close and run on hardly any budget. It doesn’t make sense and I cannot believe that that team has got to that point.”
McLaren haven’t won a race since Lewis’ departure, and their 2015 campaign has hit a recent slump on low-drag circuits. Honda’s chief motorsport officer, Yasuhisa Arai, has been subject to criticism so far this weekend, and there are fears that the McLaren-Honda relationship is deteriorating, just two races after Fernando Alonso secured a 5th place finish in Hungary.
The current world champion sympathises for the drivers. Fellow Brit Jenson in particular.
“Experience still stands for a lot and that team needs direction and a lot of help. I still think Jenson has a place in F1. He is one of the greats.”
