Ferrari has secured the services of highly-rated technical director James Allison until 2018 after agreeing a contract extension according to Motorsport.com
The Briton, who has been widely credited for Ferrari’s resurgence this season, originally joined the Maranello outfit in 2013 with his current contract ending at the end of 2015.
There was speculation that his place in the team was in doubt, but on Thursday, Ferrari sources confirmed that he has just agreed a brand new deal that will keep him with the Italian outfit until 2018.
Allison is enjoying his second term with the outfit after working with them originally from 1999 to 2005.
He then switched to Benetton, which became Renault and then Lotus before returning to Ferrari in 2013.
His technical skills have helped Ferrari win two races this year, as it eyes a full assault on Mercedes in 2016.
Speaking to reporters in Belgium, Allison said that more success this year depended on Mercedes hitting trouble.
“We’re not a bad car, but we’re not as good as these guys [Mercedes] and if they have a bad weekend while we’re having a good weekend then we can upset the apple cart a bit,” he said.
“If things pan out more normally then we tend to come in behind them. So let’s keep our fingers crossed that they have a bad weekend and we do the opposite.”
