The 2015 Belgian Grand Prix saw both McLaren’s of Button and Alonso finishing a lap down from the field, even though considerable modifications had been made to the Honda engine.
When asked about this seasons progress Button told Autosport.com “I think the aim is getting both cars in the points. A podium? It’s unlikely”
McLaren are currently only 9th in the constructors world championship with a measly 17 points. Thinking about the rest of the season, Button said: “in the remaining races we need to score and maximise every opportunity. For us, you have to think our best race is going to be Singapore; it’s a slow circuit with low-speed corners which we’re very strong in. So that’s probably the race where we will pick up the most points I should think”. McLaren’s highest finish this year was Hungary in which Alonso finished a huge 5th place.
Considering the 2016 season Button said “there are still many things we have to put in place to be competitive and fight for world championships”
“For future races and next year things will look pretty different”.
