The GP2 Series will return to the Sakhir International Circuit for an additional round as a replacement for the cancelled round at the Nürburgring in Germany. The event will be held from November 19th to 21st, back-to-back with the season finale in Abu Dhabi on the following weekend. Formula 1’s feeder series will be sharing the race track with the FIA World Endurance Championship as a support series for the Six Hours of Bahrain.

“I am pleased to confirm that we have added Sakhir to our 2015 GP2 calendar in November”, says GP2 Series CEO  Bruno Michel in the GP2 press release. “Ever since the announcement of the cancellation of the German event, we have been working hard to try and add a round for our Series.

“It was important that we could keep the costs down for the teams, but also to find a venue that was an added value for the drivers. Bahrain International Circuit was the best option: not only is it a Formula One track, but it makes perfect sense to have it back-to-back with the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi.”

With the added round, the GP2 calendar looks as follows:

  • August 21 – 23: Spa- Francorchamps, Belgium
  • September 04 – 06: Monza, Italy
  • October 09 – 11: Sochi, Russia
  • November 19 – 21: Sakhir, Bahrain
  • November 27 – 29: Yas Marina, United Arab Emirates
