Nico Rosberg has admitted he had no explanation as to why he was unable to challenge Lewis Hamilton for pole ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The German driver saw Mercedes team-mate Hamilton top all practice sessions before securing a dominant pole position by over five tenths of a second which was his ninth pole position of the year, and the fifth of his career around the Hungaroring.
Rosberg conceded he had no answers to why he couldn’t beat his team-mate for pole position.
“I don’t have an explanation,” said Rosberg. “Qualifying went pretty much to plan but I didn’t find the pace.
“It has been a bit up and down all weekend for some reason. We need to look into it tonight.
“I am definitely not happy with how it went today.”
Rosberg, starting from the dirty side of the grid, says he is hopefully of beating Hamilton on the strategy.
“There’s going to be some opportunities in terms of strategy, definitely, so let’s see,” said.
