Ricciardo Confirmed For London Race of Champions

Red Bull driver Daniel Riccardo will partner five-time MotoGP World Champion Mick Doohan as part of Team Australia in this year’s Race Of Champions event in London.

Daniel RicciardoThe Australian will be making his ROC debut, and will join former teammate Sebastian Vettel and another ex-Red Bull driver David Coulthard at Queen Elizabeth Park in November.

“It’s an honour to be invited to the Race Of Champions and I’m really looking forward to racing inside the tight confines of London’s former Olympic Stadium” Ricciardo said, speaking to the official ROC website.

“It will be very different to what I’m used to in Formula 1, but I can’t wait to try out ROC’s wide range of cars in quick succession. It looks like a serious challenge, but I’m ready for anything.”

The Australian was full of praise for his countryman, adding, “The word ‘legend’ is overused in sport, but Mick is one of the few who genuinely deserve it.”

ROC president Fredrik Johnsson added: “What a line-up we’ve put together for Team Australia this year. We are delighted to welcome Daniel to the Race Of Champions for the first time. He announced his arrival at the top of Formula 1 in some style last year and I’m sure plenty of race fans will be excited at the prospect of watching him take on the likes of Sebastian Vettel in identical machinery in November.”

Also confirmed to appear at this year’s event are nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen, and reigning FIA World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg.

It is the first that the Race Of Champions will be staged in the UK since 2007-08 when Wembley Stadium played host to the event.
