Max Verstappen suffered an early retirement from the British GP after a high-speed spin on the exit of turn 2, coming into Village. The 17 year old was the only driver to start on the prime tyre and lost control soon after the safety car restart.
“It was a very short race. A very bad start, I had a lot of wheelspin. I was the only one on the hard tyre and in front of me a few crashes happened so I was lucky to escape from that.”
The Dutchman enjoyed a smooth Friday’s running however his qualifying was plagued with traction issues and he started from 13th position.
“After the safety car restart, I don’t know what happened in turn two. I was flat out on the throttle and suddenly I just lost the rear. I touched the guardrail softly so there was a bit of damage, but then I was in reverse but it wasn’t reversing. It was very strange.”
