Nico Rosberg says he believed he would overtake Lewis after passing the Williams’ and originally thought the Brit made the wrong call to pit.
“The drizzle gave me a good opportunity and I felt great in the car” he told BBC Sport
“I could really push and get past both Williams’ and then hunt down Lewis. I saw I was a lot quicker at the time and believed actually “I’m going to get him as well now”.”
Nico closed the gap of seven and a half seconds to Lewis in three laps before the world champion pitted.
“…and then the rain came in and he made the right call to pit at just the right lap. I thought it was the wrong call at that point in time, but it just rained more and that was it. No chance after that.”
Asked about the start where he was passed by both Williams’, Nico replied: “It was just a bad start. No reason. We need to analyse it.”
