Rosberg takes Austria victory with ease

_87d7506Nico Rosberg has taken victory at the Austrian Grand Prix for a second occasion ahead of team-mate Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa.

Despite missing out on pole position, Nico Rosberg’s start was significantly better than Hamilton’s which allowed the German to lead into turn one. Further down the field, Valtteri Bottas dropped behind Max Verstappen.

Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen were involved in a major collision where the Finn lost it on traction resulting in pushing the McLaren driver into the barrier.

After six laps under the safety car, the race resumed which saw Valtteri Bottas overtake Max Verstappen and Nico Hulkenberg as he looked to recover after a poor start.

The first round of pit-stops took place on lap 34 as Rosberg pitted one lap earlier than team-mate Hamilton. Both cars retained their position of first and second.

Hamilton was awarded a five-second penalty for crossing the white line at pit exit however it ultimately made difference to the end result.

Sebastian Vettel pitted on lap 38 however a slow stop from the Ferrari pit-crew demoted the German down to fourth, he was unable to overtake Felipe Massa – who took advantage of the error, in the closing laps.

Valtteri Bottas finished fifth ahead of Nico Hulkenberg, Pastor Maldonado, Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and Daniel Ricciardo.
