Hamilton believed pole was "probably lost" with spin

08f1gpaustriahz4644Lewis Hamilton thought that pole position had gone away from him having spun in Q3.

Hamilton spun off track at turn 1 whilst on provisional pole as he begun his final qualifying lap to better his lap time. While team-mate Nico Rosberg was on course to displace Hamilton at the top.

Much to the reigning world champion’s fortunes Rosberg had an off-track moment of his own on his fastest lap as he skated across the gravel trap at the final turn, allowing Hamilton to secure pole for tomorrow’s race.

When fielding questions in the press conference after qualifying, Hamilton was appreciative of his first run earlier in Q3 and likened his spin to the one he had at turn 2 in the Q3 last year.

“Naturally I was thinking I’d probably lost it there,” he told the media. “I’m grateful I had one decent Q3 run.

“I don’t know what happened, I locked the rears and snapped it round. It is similar to what happened in Turn 2 here [last year].

“I do it quite often, not quite sure why – maybe I’ve got big feet!”
