The only driver in Thursday’s press conference to have raced during F1’s last tyre war, Felipe Massa, told the media that he doesn’t think another tyre war will happen soon, but it was better for the drivers.
“Well, for sure, when we had the fight between the tyre suppliers (Michelin and Bridgestone), it was amazing the grip we had from the tyres.”
Michelin and Bridgestone co-supplied the tyres for F1 from 2001 to 2006.
“The companies were giving the best they could. When you only have one company it is the same for every driver so, for sure, they can spend less money on that.”
“From the driving point of view, for sure, it was better before. For the money point of view it is too expensive, especially now – for sure it would be too expensive.”
