In an interview with the media today, Sergio Perez is confident that Force India are moving in the right direction with developing their 2015 car.
Despite the late launch of the VJM08, Force India picked up a decent haul of seven points at the first race in Australia, but they struggled with pace at the Malaysian Grand Prix last time out and both drivers left Sepang without any points.
In his interview with the media today, Perez is upbeat about this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix despite not having the best of records at Shanghai. Perez stated the following:-
‘I’m looking forward to this weekend and getting back in the car. The first two races have not been the easiest for me, but as a team we’ve been fighting hard and doing all that we can to find more performance. We have lots of areas to improve, but it’s a long season and it feels like we are moving in the right direction.
‘Shanghai has never been the luckiest circuit for me. It was only last year that I scored my first points there. It’s a track that I enjoy because of the unusual characteristics. Turn one is a real challenge, especially in qualifying because you need to carry so much speed into the corner, but it’s easy to run wide and lose a lot of time.’
Even though Perez has not had the best luck at the circuit; he does enjoy the circuit and is looking forward to driving this weekend and getting back into the car. But as he rightly says, he hasn’t had the start to his season that he would have liked and is doing everything that he can as a driver to improve while also helping the team too.
But overall, Perez might not have had the start to the season he wanted to have, this will only spur him on to try and change that over the season ahead and there is still a long way to go. But the fact that he feels that Force India are going in the right direction even though he knows that there is still work to be done still; must instill confidence into the team as well as himself too.
As we know Force India are not where they want or need to be in regards to their performance on the track currently; but with everything in place with the wind tunnel in Cologne, we could see them improving race by race and in the position they should have been in by the summer break.
Question is; is that too late for the team and Perez? We don’t know but let’s hope that Perez is proven right and we see the team building improving as a result.
