German Grand Prix officially cancelled

G.P. AUSTRALIA F1/2015The FIA has officially confirmed that the 2015 German Grand Prix will no longer go ahead, marking the first time Germany has been absent from the Formula 1 calendar since 1960.

As per an agreement reached in 2006, the German round of the Formula 1 World Championship has been alternated between the Hockenheimring and the Nurburgring, with the latter due to host this year’s event.

After the fabled circuit in the Eifel Mountains were financially unable to host the race, it looked as if Hockenheim would step in to ensure Germany kept its spot on the calendar. This never materialised, however, as the owners could not reach an agreement with Bernie Ecclestone, and subsequently dropped the Grand Prix.

“The German Grand Prix has been withdrawn as the CRH [Commerical Rights Holder] and promoter did not reach agreement,” confirmed the World Motor Sport Council.

The loss of the German Grand Prix means that the 2015 season will now only comprise of 19 races, and Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Hulkenberg will be without a home event.
