The reformed Manor F1 Team have announced the signing of Roberto Merhi to partner Will Stevens for the opening round of the 2015 Formula 1 season.
The Spaniard had been signed to compete with Pons Racing in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, where he finished third in the 2014 standings, but after the news that Manor would be able to make the season opener in Australia, Merhi leapt into contention for the seat.
The 23-year-old, as well as Formula Renault 3.5, spent the second half of 2014 as the reserve driver for the now-defunct Caterham F1 team, taking part in FP1 sessions at Monza, Suzuka and Sochi.
As well as Merhi’s signing, Manor have also announced that GP2 racer Jordan King will serve as the official reserve driver, as a result of Jordan’s father Justin being brought into the team as chairman.
