"I don't plan on hogging my seat" – Hamilton

Hamilton Barcelona Test 2 talking to engineerLewis Hamilton suggests he will retire from F1 if he is not competitive in his later years.

Hamilton, 30, discussed future prospects in F1 with Laureus – a global sports achievement award where the Brit has been nominated for “Sportsman of the Year”, won the previous year by Sebastian Vettel.

The double world champion predicts he has another 8 years left in him but says: “I’m sure I could go longer, but I think there’s only 20 seats in Formula One, so you’ve got to imagine that there’s going to be kids coming up along the way.”

Hamilton already has the most race victories for a British driver in F1 with 33 in 8 seasons.

“I don’t plan on hogging my seat, particularly if I’m not competitive in my later years. I’ll definitely stop.”
