Day two of the second Barcelona test saw Force India début their 2015 challenger ahead of the season opener in Melbourne which takes place in two weeks time.
Force India delayed the launch of the VJM08 to give their car longer in the wind tunnel.
The team acquired Toyota’s old wind tunnel in Cologne during the latter stages of the 2014 and have used the facilities to build their 2015 challenger.
Nico Hulkenberg was on duty for the team and was happy to have completed 77 laps during the afternoon session.
“It was a very good day, at least in terms of the running we managed to do. We were able to run reliably straight out of the box and that is very encouraging. The boys and girls at the factory and here at the track have been pushing really hard in the last couple of weeks and to do 77 laps in little more than one afternoon is a remarkable job by the team.
The German admitted that the team will need to find out the car’s strengths and weaknesses of the VJM08 as soon as possible after not running their 2015 challenger at the previous two tests.
One of our team’s strengths is to learn about the car quickly, so we will need to get as much data as possible to get in a good position for Melbourne. Tomorrow we will be looking at doing more long runs, working with the various tyre compounds and putting more mileage on the car.”
