Williams’ Felipe Massa set the pace on day one of the second Barcelona test at the Circuit de Catalunya.
The Brazilian set a 1:23.500 which is the quickest time set at Barcelona this winter. Massa completed 103 laps in the FW37.
Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson was second quickest for Sauber, setting his fastest time on the red-marked super-soft tyres with less than thirty minutes of the day remaining.
Lewis Hamilton was third fastest for Mercedes who were hit with power unit troubles. Mercedes confirmed via Twitter that they had suffered MG-UK failure which meant they could not run again. The reigning world champion set his fastest time on the medium tyres.
Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat was fourth quickest and caused the first red flag of the day as his car stopped at the pit exit.
Romain Grosjean was fifth fastest completing 75 laps in the process ahead of Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.
It was another challenging day for McLaren-Honda and Jenson Button who have had limited running this winter. They only completed seven laps after a hydraulic leak.
Force India will debut their 2015 challenger with Nico Hulkenberg testing the car in the afternoon session on Friday.
