Alex Lynn has insisted that he won’t let his new role with the Williams Formula 1 team distract him from his aim of winning the GP2 title.
Lynn, 21, was recently named as the development driver for the Grove-based outfit, and will share duties with his debut GP2 season, where he will compete for reigning champions DAMS.
The Englishman hopes that a successful campaign in GP2, combined with his development work for Williams, will persuade the team to take him into a Formula 1 race seat.
“From Williams’ point of view, my GP2 commitment comes first and that is how I would want it to be as well,” he said. “If I don’t perform in GP2 then I don’t expect Williams to take me into Formula One. They have chosen me to be their development driver and to be honest the hard work ramps up from here.
“I have been given this opportunity and I have to make the most of it. That’s very exciting and I know they are 100 per cent behind me, but I know I have to perform.”
